We were sitting at McDonald's Civic Centre today, just chilling, like we always do. We had our large coke and our cigarettes and our small talk, everything was normal. After a while, Sarah noticed that there were 2 bags left on a nearby chair. At first we thought nothing of it, however after 20 mins or so, there was still no sign of the owner. Amin joked that it could be a bomb. After the queue cleared and still no one came back to claim the bags, my concern that anyone could just walk off with someone else's belongings grew, so I went into Macs and told one of the staff there about the bag.. could you please just hold onto some unattended bags outside? it's been there for the last 15-20mins. And just pass it back to the owner when he/she gets back? Thanks.
5 mins later, a middle aged lady came by. She look puzzled and i immediately put my hand up, got her attention and proceeded to tell her that her bags were inside.. What happened next was unbelievable. Simply unbelievable.
me: excuse me are u lookin for ur bag, they're with the staff inside.
woman: Huh who take?
me: Oh u weren't ard so i told them to take care of ur bag for u when u were gone.
w: huh? why u do that? I just went in for a while to get a drink.
I tried to explain why i did it. That i was looking out for her. And that the bags were in fact NOT left for a while. Cos before Sarah noticed, no one was sitting at that table, so the bags have been there for quite a while.
This is where i expected a thanks or at least sth along those lines. Instead i get..
w: Are you stupid or what? I only went in for a while (somebody get this lady a watch). I come out and U tell them to take away my bags! Why cannot mind ur own business issit?
me: look, u just need to go in and get it back from them. I did it because i didn't want anyone to walk off with ur bags.
From this point onwards she started shouting at the top of her voice.
w: i dun care! U better go in and take it back! U dunno how heavy it is, I carry so far.. and u just ask them to take it. Now u better go in and bring it back!
This is where my patience started wearing thin. I helped to look out for u, and u call me names, u shout and u embarass me. The counter was only like 10 m away from where we were. I refused to go in and take it for her. So... i took out a cigarette, lit it, smiled at her and turned away, shaking my head. I could feel everyone's eyes on me. That would be ard 50 plus ppl sitting inside, as well as around us. She continued shouting and i fought the urge to stub out my cigarette in her face.
w:U better go in and take it back or i will call the police! (if ure thinking WTF? that was exactly what went thru my mind)
Faisal: Call ah!
w: i am police ok!
F: SO am i. Go ahead and call, we have not done anything wrong.
w: U police? Let me see ur card!!
This is where the lady opened her wallet to show her PA membership card . Before Faisal cld show his Police identification, she walked away, all the while still cursing us and screaming that she was gonna call the police.
w: U better sit there and don't move. I'm calling police!!! Anyhow say that ure a police.
F: we're sitting down already! ( i thought this comment was quite funny, in the heat of the moment)
w: I WILL SUE YOU!! (this took the cake, i just burst out laughing)
We decided to wait for the 5-0(five oh: cops) even though Faisal had to leave and i wanted to go back and revise for P&M. She went back to her table which was by now occupied by someone else and started screaming at them for taking her place, screamed at them for taking her coca-cola (again, i wish to reiterate, WTF) and at one of them for staring at her. Poor guys, had no idea what hit them. Just came, kena fuck already.
Anyway, the cops arrived 20 mins later and we explained to them what had actually happened. Seems that the woman was a trainee for the VSC(Volunteer Special Constabulary). Wahhhh damn police ah. Bloody trainee. Identifying urself as a police officer. I'm sure that's an offence. Anyway, the 2 officers, an NSF corporal and a regular Sergeant failed to explain to her our good intentions and eventually she insisted on making a police report. But even the cops couldnt answer me when i asked them what the basis of her report would be. They just shrugged, turned and left. I hope she stops wasting other ppl's time by not going ahead with the report. Cos there isnt any case in the first place. Unless she decides to sue me for being helpful.
What would you do if u saw an unattended bag? Would it cross your mind to keep an eye out for the owner? Would you even give a damn? Would you report it? Remember the Total Defence campaign? Where the message was: Everyone Plays a part. Today Sarah, Faisal, Amin and me decided to display some civic-mindedness (sadly, a quality lacking in many singaporeans). And we paid the price. What if it was an incendiary device? or sth else that cld have threatened everyone's lives. I hope no one who was present there just now thinks twice abt reporting suspicious articles after what happened.

Remember the post titled freak? it shd be below. I was reading the same person's blog this afternoon. And she said sth abt her day being spoilt when this crazy auntie started talking to her on the bus and harassing her. Crazy aunties indeed.

wtf?????? hahhahhahah just by reading your entry i feel like like punching the daylights of out the bloody stupid woman. oh well zak.. sometimes ppl dont appreciate what we do for them. especially in singapore.. u get ppl calling the police their mommies or the mp everytime they dont get their way. sheesh
Thx faeeza.. it's crazy man.. u just dun understand some ppl.. well.. it's over and done, hope none of us bumps into ppl like that ever..
