I've just finished reading Tony Parsons' Man And Boy. And in the process of reading this wonderful book, i gained some insights on myself. Amazing, right?
This book centres on Harry Silver, a producer who has everything going for him, a loving family, a beautiful wife, a great job and everything seems oh-so-rosy.. Then he sleeps with a colleague and everything starts to fall apart.. The book focuses on his struggle to be a single parent, his love for his kid, his admiration for his father and another woman he falls in love with after his wife left him..
There was one part where Harry tries desperately to get back with his wife.. She says that she loves him but isn't in love with him anymore.. He had no idea what she was talking about.. Until someone else told him that He was a romantic, he loved the IDEA of love, he loved being in love, but he couldn't take it when love became monotonous and stable.. he liked sweeping her off her feet but when things cooled down and everyday life resumed he just couldn't deal with it.. he still believes in THE ONE, even when his wife left him.. This part reminded me of myself so much.. It's so me.. Tony Parson knows me! he has been analysing my dating habits and he has interviewed every single girl i've gone out with (not a lot mind u) and he has come up with the formula of ME! And so he modelled this Harry Silver character after me... haha..
I'm such a twat.
Still.. i must learn from this book, i must not commit the mistakes Harry did, i must stop looking for the perfect one, unless she just happens to come knocking on my door, i must stop psycho-analysing every girl i meet... breaking her down from the way she walks, the way she shuffles her feet, the way she laughs, the way she ties her hair, the way she reacts when she's uncomfortable...Must stop searching for that flaw, that fatal flaw which i would focus on in my mind and strike her off my list permanently..
And this book really made me want to be a father.. to take care of my kid, raise him up, to shower him with TLC and to protect him all the way, and that's saying sth considering my phobia for commitment and how i dun wanna be tied down.. Still, i loved every page.. Gonna get the sequel thats for sure.
