In Mendaki, I realised that having the best academic class doesn't actually mean having the easiest of tasks.. We had tutor evaluation last week, something to just gauge the performance of the tutors, a feeble attempt to identify bad tutors.. I mean these are primary school kids for god's sake, you only have to put a bowl of hershey's in front of them for u to have sweet reviews (pun intended).. Anyway, the comments range from saying the class was too big (we already cut down from 20 to 12) to one which begged for no homework for 2 months.. My personal evaluation was quite ok but i realised that some of these kids had motivational problems.. Some of them have external tuition, school revision classes on top of Mendaki.. I'm also appalled that a few mentioned they didn't learn anything from my English classes.. while the rest said they found it beneficial.. I guess it's a matter of learning to accomodate their different English standards.. keeping in mind that they were banded according to Maths results not English. Overall, teaching these kids is a good experience for me.. I feel a sense of satisfaction when i get through to them, u know.. But NO, i don't think i wanna teach full time thank you v much.. just a bit on the side, really hope that i can continue even after i've started working, it helps to de-stress a bit.. I was quite surprised to know that a few of my students are actually attached! and last Saturday, one of them actually wrote 'kena fuck' in her journal as a way of describing the way someone got scolded.. damn teruk man.. But it's just refreshing to teach those kids. It's been said that u're moulding their minds, like clay.. but sometimes i feel i need to hammer stuff into them, like metal u noe; malleable, but u just have to use force at times.
Sunday soccer's getting interesting too. FOS (Friends of sean/Full Of Shit) has a full record of 4 wins out of 4. The last one was a tough one, played against this abang-abang team. Managed to escape with 2 goals, a bruise on the back of my head and a long stud cut across my right shin. not that they were particularly rough or malicious in their tackling only a bit overzealous at times.. and after beating their offside traps a couple of times in the first half, they offered me 20 bucks to not score in the second.. Somehow i managed to negotiate that to: 30 bucks plus ice kachang plus Beriyani... Haha. Right. I think after i scored again, they channeled their underhanded means to the ref cos he started making nonsense calls.. Pulling me for offside more times than Barak loses his memory. They also channeled their efforts to other means like tripping me when i got through, which, coupled with the bribed ref meant that they got away with it. sigh. All in all our defence played solidly, making numerous blocks and containing their attack effectively.. Daryl played superbly too, i realise how much technique i lack when i see him and Alvin play. Scintillating i tell u. I guess i'm just an out-an-out striker and i desperately need to work on my passing and ball control. Final score 3-2..i wasted 2 chances which i should have put away. I tell you, i don't think i ever will be satisfied with my own performance. Which is normal for a perfectionist over-competitive freak like me i guess... I'm glad to say i'm really beginning to enjoy my Sunday Mornings more also cos of the post match team kopi session. We analyse the match, discuss how we can improve ourselves and even magnify some of our comical errors.. Especially Singh and Steven.. Even stevens la i think.. haha. That's the guy who tackled Barak superbly.. Too bad they were on the same team. hyuk hyuk. Other than soccer we also talk about stuff like jobs, income taxes, investment, progress package, elections.. more serious stuff la.. which is good cos i don't usually talk about this stuff to anyone really. maybe cos they're all older than me and some of them are working.. Hope this team will stick together even when everyone has more commitments.
One performance i was thoroughly satisfied with over the weekend was Man U's against Arsenal. It was an exciting match, i'm sure most of u already know that.. And the defence(not to mention Wayne Rooney) was absolutely rock-solid . Let's push Chelski all the way lads!
Specially for you.. Every sunset has a sunrise baby, the longer the darkness the more fulfilling the dawn..
